Help Beyond Recovery Meetings

Recovery Canada is one of many peer support groups. For further assistance see the following listings:

St. Joseph's Hospital Mental Health and Addiction Services provides professional services to the city of Hamilton as well as links to a variety of local groups.

The Mental Health Rights Coalition (MHRC) was formed in 1991 by a group of Consumer/Survivors who were concerned about the province's move toward de-institutionalization in the absence of adequate and appropriate community supports and services. They offer peer support and a drop in center in Hamilton.

Mood Disorders Association of Ontario offers free support programs to people across Ontario, and their families, who are living with depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder. A variety of programs in the Hamilton and Toronto area are listed.

eMentalHealth.ca provides a large database of resources which is searchable by region.  Resources include crisis hotlines, children's services, self-help groups, counselling, as well as contact numbers for psychologists and psychiatrists.

The Canadian Mental Health Association provides recovery-focused programs and services for people of all ages and their families.

Hamilton Mental Health Outreach provides a supportive and nurturing environment for persons with challenging mental illness.

BetterHelp offers access to licensed, trained, experienced, and accredited psychologists (PhD / PsyD), marriage and family therapists (LMFT), clinical social workers (LCSW / LMSW), and board licensed professional counselors (LPC). You can communicate with a counsellor via phone, text, or video conference, rates are considerably lower than meeting a therapist in an office.

Professional counsellors including psychologist and social workers may be covered by some insurance plans. There are a number that practice privately in Hamilton, for a list see Therapists in Hamilton which you can visit locally.
